• Sit in every seat and listen for squeaks.
• Look under cushions and along seams.
• Measure the piece, your room, and every doorway in between.
• Ask about pets, smoke, stains, and the age of the furniture.

A small flaw may be fixable

Loose hardware, tired cushions, and surface grime are often manageable. Structural damage, strong odors, and widespread fabric problems are different. Be honest about your time and skills before turning a bargain into a permanent garage project.
